Freescale/NXP Semiconductors

Freescale was looking for a Web Designer to help create mockups for their rebrand online, as well as other web banners and ads online. I started out with the Creative Services team as a web designer, and then moved to the Online Experience group as a UI Designer. There I assisted with wireframes and mockups following usability standards. We updated sections of the site at a time. Soon after, NXP merged with Freescale, and we had to redesign the site merging the styles and content.

NXP-Freescale Merger

I was working on Freescale’s Online Experience team when we were tasked with merging the two robust sites’ content, as well as work with Creative Services team to evolve branding of the merged company. NXP decided to use the Freescale web architecture to combine the sites. We worked on solutions using Agile methodology. I created many high resolution mockups to aid in discussions on the best way to move forward.

App Design

Not only did the webpages need to be merged, but the mobile apps needed to have a consistent feel between the existing apps for both companies. A Mobile App Styleguide was developed within the Online Experience team to allow for consistency but also unique icons.

Freescale Technology Forum (FTF) event app

Freescale (and then later NXP after a merger) held an annual conference to showcase products and upcoming technology with supporting business partners. For both 2015 and 2016, I assisted with activities for this event. Among them included a mobile app for attendees. Each year, we continued to add new functionality to make the experience at the conference more engaging. In 2015, we attempted to incorporate a 3D map, but it made the download and app load time too long. We scrapped it for a 2D map with some added features. However in 2016, the team was able to incorporate RFID in the app to notify users when they were at certain booths along with additional info.

Cross Check app

Freescale created a mobile app for customers to look up and compare their different product ts to ensure they got the right part. I was brought in to help on a project to update the Cross Check mobile ap s to ensure they got the right part. I was brought in to help on a project to update the Cross Check mobile app. They were looking to add new functionality and update the graphics. They also had some bugs to solve when logging in. I was able to provide a suggestion to allow for guest users to solve one of the issues stemming from feedback with the application.

Product Selector Grid

A highly used tool on the Freescale site was the Product Selector table that allowed users to narrow down their options based on their project needs. The team then worked to incorporate the new styling, update functionality, and include NXP products at a later phase.

Solutions & Applications Pages

Among the pages that needed to be updated and combined, included Freescale’s Application pages along with NXP’s Solutions pages.

NXP went back to referring to these pages as Applications instead of Solutions. It was determined through feedback applications for their products made more sense to the end users.

Freescale Technology Forum (FTF)

FTF was a huge event for Freescale. It was so successful that NXP decided to continue it after the merger despite the initial plan to cancel the event. I assisted with numerous aspects of their annual conference for both 2015 and 2016. I also assisted with some of the 2014 activities by creating banners and image thumbnails. The change between 2014 and 2015 events were for more interaction with the participants both on the website and at the event. I was part of a team that worked on making the website responsive and work with an app for attendees to use while at FTF. We also took over the homepage of the main site during the event’s keynote for both 2015 and 2016. Below you can see some of the tiles and screenshots from this endeavor. I helped create all the tile images for the takeover, the styling for the tiles, and the layout. For the website, I created banner images and icons for the site, as well as the interface.

Tablet UI Project

The Digital Networking group wanted to have a custom interface built to go on tablets for an event to showcase videos on the latest technology. I had three weeks to design, code, and implement while continuing to work on my other projects. We received positive feedback from the marketing person at the event about the videos and interface. They had several people stop and watch the videos at the booth, and they then engaged with the representatives at the conference.

DVD UI Project

Here is an example of a quick reference to guides and software installers sent out on a DVD packaged with their hardware. The design was based off the newly created rebrand for the company. I also worked to simplfy the content and add new functionality. It was on two different pages which I combined to one, and I added the capability to zoom in on the product shot of the board.View DVD UI demo

Search results

I was tasked to create mockups for the dev team assigned to making the search results page look more like Google. I typically gave HTML and CSS files from Dev Tools in the browser.

Dashboard UI

The executive team wanted an interface to be created for them to easily digest web stats.

Auto console interface

The Automotive group had an upcoming conference, and they wanted sleek graphics to demo their technology. The team requested graphics be created that they could piece into their code.

Web banners and ads

Here is a sampling of banners and web ads I created during my whole time at Freescale and NXP. One of the projects included updating the branding for all the Baidu ads for the Chinese market.
